How Kikasha Works
Digital Pigeonholes (Tags)
The app features a digital pigeonhole called Tags for every government department. This digital pigeonhole serves as the post office box of that department where citizens send their messages in the form of text, video, audio, pictures, or any combination thereof.
Officials only need to log into the app and their pigeonhole to see what the people are telling them.
Anonymous & Non-Anonymous Posting
There are two ways through which citizens can send information to the pigeonhole:
- Open Sharing: Messages appear both in the pigeonhole and on the public timeline.
- Anonymous Sharing: For sensitive information that could result in reprisals. Anonymous posts only appear in the pigeonhole of the intended department, not on the public timeline.
Ancillary Tools
- Petitions: Effective tools for influencing government officials and informing policy formulation
- Opinion Polls: Demonstrate public preferences on various issues
- Private Forums: For people with shared interests (e.g., small traders' associations) to discuss issues privately
All tools are also available for private interests - private companies or government agencies can create custom tags/pigeonholes for engaging with their clientele.
